Liatris microcephala (Small) K.Schum. is a species of flowering plant in the Asteraceae family, commonly called smallhead blazing star and smallhead gayfeather. This species is native to the Southeastern United States, occurring mainly in regions of the Cumberland Plateau and Piedmont. Liatris microcephala is a perennial plant with narrow, grass-like leaves. It grows on exposed acidic rock including sandstone and granite, and also grows in open sandy areas. This plant produces flowers in late summer.
