About Lewisia triphylla (S.Watson) B.L.Rob.
Lewisia triphylla (S.Watson) B.L.Rob. is also called Erocallis triphylla, a flowering plant species in the family Montiaceae, with the common name threeleaf lewisia. This species is the only species classified in the genus Erocallis. It is native to western North America, ranging from British Columbia to California to Colorado. It grows in mountain and forest habitats, most often in wet, rocky alpine areas where it can bloom as snow melts. This is a perennial herb that grows from a combined structure of a fibrous taproot and a corm. Unlike many other Lewisia species, it does not grow a basal rosette; instead, it produces 2 to 5 short, slender, fleshy leaves from the lower section of the stem, which may sit at or under the soil surface. The small stem holds an inflorescence that contains 1 to 25 flowers. Each flower has 5 to 9 small white or pinkish petals, which are often marked with darker veining or stripes.
