About Lewisia nevadensis (A.Gray) B.L.Rob.
Lewisia nevadensis, a species of flowering plant in the family Montiaceae, is commonly known by the common name Nevada lewisia. It is native to a large portion of the western United States, where it grows in moist mountain habitats including meadows. This is a small perennial herb that grows from a taproot and caudex unit. It produces a basal rosette of several narrow, fleshy leaves that range from fingerlike to threadlike in shape, and reach up to 13 centimeters (5.1 inches) in length. Its inflorescence consists of a cluster of short stems, each a few centimeters tall, that holds a single flower. The flower has 5 to 10 shiny white to pale pink petals, each 1 to 2 centimeters (0.4 to 0.8 inches) long, with either pointed or blunt tips. Many stamens are located at the center of the flower. Lewisia nevadensis is sometimes grown as an ornamental plant, and is well suited for alpine and rock gardens.
