About Leucorrhinia pectoralis (Charpentier, 1825)
Leucorrhinia pectoralis (Charpentier, 1825), commonly called the large white-faced darter or yellow-spotted whiteface, is a small dragonfly that belongs to the genus Leucorrhinia within the family Libellulidae. This species reaches a total length of 32–39 millimetres (1.3–1.5 in), and is the largest member of its genus found in Europe. It can be easily identified by the large yellow marking on the seventh segment of its abdomen. It inhabits marshy borders, and prefers less acidic water than its close relative, the white-faced darter Leucorrhinia dubia. Its range extends from western Siberia to parts of France. In England, there was only a single record from Kent in June 1859, until two additional sightings were recorded in Suffolk in May 2012.
