About Leucochrysum alpinum (F.Muell.) R.J.Dennis & N.G.Walsh
Leucochrysum alpinum is a perennial herb that reaches approximately 50 cm (20 in) in height. It has woolly, whitish leaves. Its white flower heads are 2–5 cm (0.79–1.97 in) in diameter. The outer involucral bracts are oblong or oval, mostly purplish or brownish, and the flower heads are sessile, with yellow florets. Flowering takes place from December to February. The fruit is a brown, egg-shaped achene 2–3 mm (0.079–0.118 in) long, with a surface that ranges from smooth to nearly warty, and it is bristly. This species, commonly called alpine sunray, grows at higher altitudes in New South Wales and Victoria, Australia, where it occurs in subalpine heath and grasslands, most often on shallow soils.
