About Leucoagaricus barssii (Zeller) Vellinga
This species, currently classified as Leucoagaricus barssii (Zeller) Vellinga, was previously referred to as Leucocoprinus barssii. It is a large dapperling mushroom with white flesh. The cap measures 4 to 8 cm across; it starts convex before becoming depressed, and may also be slightly umbonate. The cap surface is fibrous with scattered scales. The stem measures 4 to 8 cm long, tapers toward the base, and bears a wide annulus. The gills are white or cream in colour, and are freely attached with a collar. It produces a creamy white spore print. Its spores are ovoid, smooth, and dextrinoid, measuring 7-8 x 5-5.5 μm. The taste is indistinct, while the smell is pleasant and fresh. In terms of habitat and distribution, L. barssii is reported as widespread but rarely recorded in the United Kingdom. Observations of the species are uncommon across Europe, and purported observations are most frequently recorded from the West Coast of the United States.
