About Leucauge medjensis Lessert, 1930

This species, Leucauge medjensis Lessert, 1930, is currently known only from female specimens. It is a small spider with a round oval abdomen. The abdomen has black spots on the shoulder region, and its posterior end bears a tail-like projection. Leucauge medjensis is distributed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, and South Africa. Within South Africa, it has been recorded from the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga provinces. For habitat and ecology, this species builds orb-webs in vegetation. It has been sampled from the Forest, Indian Ocean Coastal Belt, Grassland, Savanna, and Thicket biomes, at altitudes ranging from 29 to 1,297 m. It has also been recorded from citrus orchards.
