About Leucauge granulata (Walckenaer, 1841)

Leucauge granulata (Walckenaer, 1841) is a species of long-jawed orb weaver spider belonging to the family Tetragnathidae. This species is distributed across India, Sri Lanka, China, the Sunda Islands of Indonesia, Australia, and French Polynesia. The subspecies Leucauge granulata marginata inhabits New Guinea, and the subspecies Leucauge granulata rimitara is found in French Polynesia. This is a medium-sized spider. Females have a leg span of approximately 45 mm, while male leg spans reach up to 15 mm. It has a humped, silver-colored abdomen, and a silver-green head marked with black patterns. Its legs are thin, and range in color from brown to light green. It builds webs that are either horizontal or slightly inclined, and rests upside down underneath the web while waiting for prey. Its opposing fangs function with a pinching movement.
