About Leucauge argentina (Hasselt, 1882)
This description of Leucauge argentina is based on specimens collected from Taiwan. In this species, females are larger than males: females have a total body length of approximately 4.34 mm, while males have a total body length of about 2.60 mm. The carapace is yellowish, with a darker head region. The legs are brown and have no distinct banding patterns. The abdomen has silver speckles and black markings. The carapace length-to-width ratio is around 1.30 for females and 1.25 for males. Females of this species have a distinctive epigynum structure, and males have characteristic palpal features; both structures are used to identify the species. Leucauge argentina is distributed across Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia (Sumatra), the Philippines, and Taiwan. The species was first recorded from Taiwan by Tso and Tanikawa in 2000. Leucauge argentina builds orb webs, and lives in association with agricultural areas, particularly rice fields in Southeast Asia.
