About Leucanthemum maximum (Ramond) DC.
Leucanthemum maximum (Ramond) DC. is a rhizomatous perennial herb. It reaches heights of 30 to 70 centimeters. Many large, serrated leaves grow around the base of its stem, attached to winged petioles. Smaller, lance-shaped leaves are arranged alternately along the stem. Its inflorescence is typically a large, solitary flower head that can exceed 8 centimeters in diameter. The flower head has a fringe of 20 to 30 white ray florets surrounding a center of many densely packed yellow disc florets. It produces a small ribbed achene as fruit, which does not have a pappus. This species is native to France and Spain. It now grows wild in other parts of the world as an introduced species, and it is sometimes found as a garden escapee.
