About Leucadendron linifolium (Jacq.) R.Br.
This species of shrub is scientifically known as Leucadendron linifolium (Jacq.) R.Br., and is called Duineknoppiesbos in Afrikaans. It grows to a height of 2 meters, or 6.6 feet, and flowers between September and October. The plant is unisexual, meaning individual plants are either male or female, and pollination is carried out by insects. If fire kills the plant, its seeds are able to survive. Seeds are stored in a cone on the female plant; after they are released, they fall to the ground, and may be spread by wind.
The species occurs across several areas in South Africa: the Cape Flats from Eerste River to the Strand, the region from Bot River to Elim and Bredasdorp, Potberg, and the region from Jakkalsfontein to the Riversdal Plains. It grows primarily in permeable sandy soil, at altitudes ranging from 5 to 120 meters, or 16 to 394 feet.
