About Lestes vigilax Hagen, 1862

Lestes vigilax was first formally described by Hagen in 1862. Commonly known as the swamp spreadwing, this species is a damselfly that belongs to the genus Lestes. Adults of this species grow to a total length between 42 and 55 mm. Its geographic distribution extends across eastern North America: it reaches west as far as Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Texas, south to Georgia and South Carolina, and north into southern Ontario. The species is most commonly observed active between the months of May and October.
