About Lestes forcipatus Rambur, 1842
Lestes forcipatus Rambur, 1842 is a medium-sized spreadwing, with a total body length ranging from 38 to 50 millimeters. Males of this species have a dark or black thorax, with tan or bluish sides and pale stripes across the shoulders. The male abdomen is dark, with a light gray tip at the end. Individuals, particularly older specimens, have a pruinescent body coating. Females are thicker in body build than males, and have a dark to black body. Both sexes can have a light brown spot on the underside of the thorax. This species is hard to tell apart from the closely related common spreadwing, L. disjunctus.
