About Lerema accius (Smith, 1797)

Lerema accius, commonly known as the clouded skipper, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Hesperiidae. Its distribution ranges from Georgia west to Texas and south to Florida in the United States, extending further south through Mexico and Central America to Venezuela and Colombia. This species has a wingspan of 32 to 45 millimeters. In Florida and southern Texas, adult clouded skippers are active year round. The larvae of Lerema accius feed on a variety of grasses, including Saccharum giganteum, Stenotaphrum secundatum, Erianthus alopecturoides and Echinochloa povietianum. Adults feed on nectar from a range of pink, purple, or white flowers, which include shepherd's needle, selfheal, vervain, buttonbush and lantana.
