About Leptotes marina (Reakirt, 1868)
Leptotes marina (Reakirt, 1868) has a wingspan of 22 to 29 millimeters. The upper side of its wings is blue, while the underside is marked with brown bands, and the hind wings bear two blue spots. Adult moths are active from April to September in the northern parts of their range, and are active year-round in the southern parts. This species occupies habitats including weedy open areas and deserts. The larvae of Leptotes marina feed on a wide range of plants: Astragalus, Amorpha californica, Acacia greggii, Dalea purpurea, Dolichos lablab, Galactia, Glycyrrhiza lepidota, Prosopis glandulosa, Lysiloma thornberi, Lathyrus odoratus, Medicago sativa, Lotus scoparius dendroides, Phaseolus, Wisteria sinensis and Plumbago. Leptotes marina larvae are also associated with the introduced Argentine ant, Iridomyrmex humilis.
