About Leptospermum rupestre Hook.fil.
Leptospermum rupestre Hook.fil. is a common alpine and subalpine shrub native to Tasmania. Its growth form varies based on growing conditions: at higher, exposed altitudes, it grows as a prostrate plant reaching up to 1 meter (3 feet 3 inches) tall. At lower altitudes, it can grow into a large shrub up to 4 meters (13 feet) tall. This species has small, blunt, shiny dark green leaves that are oval to elliptic in shape, and measure 2–9 millimeters (0.079–0.354 inches) long. Its white flowers are small, 1 centimeter (0.39 inches) wide, with five petals, have an open growth habit, and bloom in large numbers in leaf axils during summer. Its reddish branches grow into a mat-forming structure over rocks. The small seed capsules of this species are approximately 5 millimeters (0.20 inches) in diameter. This species is endemic to Tasmania, where it grows in sunny locations on light to medium soils. It is one of the hardiest species in its genus and is suitable for outdoor cultivation.
