About Leptosiphon bolanderi (A.Gray) J.M.Porter & L.A.Johnson
Leptosiphon bolanderi (A.Gray) J.M.Porter & L.A.Johnson is an annual herb. It grows a hairy, threadlike stem that reaches no taller than around 20 centimeters. Its oppositely arranged leaves are each split into very narrow, needlelike lobes only a few millimeters long. An inflorescence forms at the tip of the stem, which usually holds just one single flower. The flower has a tubular purple or pink throat that is tinted yellow on the inside, and it is enclosed within glandular sepals. The corolla has white or pink lobes a few millimeters wide. This species blooms from March to July, with timing varying based on elevation and latitude. It is native to the West Coast of the United States, growing at elevations between 200 and 1,700 meters (660 to 5,580 feet). Within California, it is native to the Sierra Nevada and Northern California Coast Ranges, where it occurs in chaparral, oak woodland, and yellow pine forest habitats.
