Common Name and Native Range

Leptolucania ommata, commonly known as the Pygmy killifish, is a species of killifish native to North America that is found exclusively in the southeastern United States.

Formal Taxonomic History

The pygmy killifish was first formally described by David Starr Jordan in 1884 under the name Heterandria ommata, with the type locality recorded as Indian River, Florida.
