About Leptodeira frenata (Cope, 1886)

Leptodeira frenata, described by Cope in 1886, is a species of mildly venomous snake that belongs to the subfamily Dipsadinae of the family Colubridae. It has two common names: the Mayan cat-eyed snake and the rainforest cat-eyed snake. This species is native to Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize, and three subspecies are currently recognized. Its geographic range covers the Atlantic slope, stretching from neotropical southern Mexico through Belize into northern Guatemala. Its preferred natural habitat is forest, at altitudes between 150 and 450 meters (490 to 1,480 feet).
