It has creeping stems that can grow up to 5 mm in diameter, which produce short lateral branches that bear leaves arranged in terminal rosettes. This species flowers between November and March, and produces fruits between February and May. It occurs across the Auckland Islands, Antipodes Islands, Campbell Island, Macquarie Island, Kerguelen Islands, Prince Edward Islands, Heard Island, and Crozet Islands. It is widespread in coastal regions across its range and rare inland, though it has been documented growing at altitudes as high as 150 m above sea level.
