About Lepiota flammeotincta Kauffman

The scientific name of this species is Lepiota flammeotincta Kauffman, also referenced as Leucocoprinus flammeotinctus. Its cap ranges from 1.5 to 7.5 centimeters in diameter, has a fibrillose texture, and features a dark-colored disc at its center. The stipe is approximately 4 to 9 centimeters long and bears a thin ring. The gills of this mushroom are white. All parts of the mushroom except the gills stain blood red when bruised, then turn brown over time. This fungus grows among pine needles in coniferous forests, and it is most often found in coastal areas of the Pacific Northwest. It typically grows at somewhat low elevations.
