About Lepidospartum latisquamum S.Watson
Lepidospartum latisquamum is a species of flowering shrub in the daisy family, commonly known as Nevada broomsage. It is native to the southwestern United States, ranging from California to Utah, where it grows in woodland and scrub habitats.
This broomlike shrub grows upright ribbed stems that form a narrow, erect shape. The ridges along the stems are hairless, while the grooves between the ridges are covered in grayish woolly hairs. Its leaves are needlelike to thready in shape, measure 2 to 3 centimeters long, and are mostly hairless.
The inflorescence is a loose cluster holding 3 to 5 flower heads. Each flower head has a nearly cylindrical base made up of flat, wide phyllaries. The flower head is discoid, containing only about five yellow disc florets and no ray florets. The fruit produced is a hairy, ridged achene that has a pappus of long bristles.
