About Lepidium perfoliatum L.

Lepidium perfoliatum L. is a species of flowering plant in the mustard family, commonly called clasping pepperweed and perfoliate pepperwort. It is native to Europe and Asia, and occurs as an introduced species in other regions worldwide. This plant is an annual or biennial herb that grows an erect stem reaching a maximum height of around 60 centimeters. Leaves at the plant’s base are split into linear lobes, while leaves growing higher on the stem are rounded to oval and wrap around the stem. The tip of the stem holds an inflorescence of very small flowers; each flower has yellow petals only 1 to 2 millimeters (0.039 to 0.079 inches) long. The fruit is a flattened oval or diamond-shaped capsule that measures approximately 4 millimeters (0.16 inches) long.
