About Leontodon hispidus L.

Leontodon hispidus is a hawkbit species with the common names bristly hawkbit and rough hawkbit. It is native to Europe, but now occurs across North America as an introduced species. A recent British study of meadow flora ranked this species first in nectar productivity among all tested non-weed perennial plants. Its nectar production was almost double that of the highest-ranked non-weed annual species. Of all plants tested in the study, plants classified as weeds produced the highest amount of nectar; this group includes ragwort, bull thistle, and creeping thistle.
