This agaric mushroom has a whitish cap that measures 6โ€“16 centimetres (2+1โ„4โ€“6+1โ„4 in) wide, with decurrent gills. Its stem is fairly central, growing up to 12 cm (4+3โ„4 in) long and 2.5 cm (1 in) thick. It has a mild to sweet odor, and produces a white spore print. In its natural habitat, this species grows on dead hardwood in climates ranging from subtropical to tropical. In North America, it occurs in the Mountain states and areas further east, and can be found between June and October. This mushroom is edible. As a saprotroph, it is capable of being cultivated. It is known and sometimes collected as food by the Huichol people of Mexico, though the Huichol prefer other less chewy mushroom species instead.
