This species is endemic to the Turks and Caicos Islands, and has been recorded on all islands in the region, though it may have been extirpated from some of them.

It is found in xeric habitats, including coastal scrub and open areas, and often occurs in leaf litter.
Diet
It is an omnivore that feeds on fruit and other lizards, and will even scavenge carcasses of its own species.
