About Leea rubra Spreng. ex Blume
Leea rubra, commonly called red leea, is a plant species in the grape family Vitaceae. Its full accepted scientific name is Leea rubra Spreng. ex Blume. This species is native to Bangladesh, Assam, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Borneo, the Philippines, New Guinea, the Northern Territory of Australia, and Queensland, Australia. It forms a small shrub that reaches a maximum height of 3 meters (9.8 feet). Its leaves are 2-, 3-, or 4-pinnate. Both the flower buds and stems of this plant are bright red in color. Its flowers have five petals, which may be cream, pink, or red. The fruit is a berry that measures around 11 millimeters (0.43 inches) in diameter, and can be red, purple, or black. Each berry contains between 4 and 6 seeds. Red leea grows as an understory plant in rainforest habitats, occurring at altitudes ranging from sea level up to approximately 400 meters (1,300 feet).
