About Ledebouria socialis (Baker) Jessop

Ledebouria socialis, commonly known as silver squill, wood hyacinth, or leopard lily, is a geophytic, bulbous perennial plant species. It is native to the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. John Gilbert Baker first formally described this species in 1870 under the name Scilla socialis. In 1970, John Peter Jessop revised the genus Scilla, split off several species from it, and reclassified Scilla socialis into the genus Ledebouria, giving it the current scientific name Ledebouria socialis (Baker) Jessop. This species is widely cultivated, and grows successfully with very minimal care.
