About Layia gaillardioides Hook. & Arn.
This aromatic annual herb has an erect stem that grows up to one meter tall, and the entire stem is covered in dark glandular hairs. Its leaves are linear or lance-shaped; lower leaves are lobed or toothed, and can reach a maximum length of nearly 10 centimeters. The flower head has an almost rounded base made up of fuzzy green phyllaries. When open, the head has a fringe of bright yellow ray florets around the edge, which sometimes have white tips. The center of the flower holds disc florets that have purple anthers. The fruit this plant produces is an achene; achenes that develop from disc florets often have a thick pappus made of white or brown bristles.
