About Layia fremontii (Torr. & A.Gray) A.Gray

Layia fremontii is an annual herb that produces a non-glandular, erect stem that reaches a maximum height of close to 40 centimeters. Its leaves are linear or lance-shaped, and somewhat fleshy. Lower leaves are multilobed and grow up to around 7 centimeters long. The base of the plant's flower head is made up of phyllaries that have fuzzy margins and hairy, bumpy surfaces. Like many other tidytips species, the ray florets of Layia fremontii are bright yellow, with neatly formed white tips. The disc florets are yellow, and have purple anthers. The fruit produced by this plant is a hairy achene, which carries a pappus made up of many white scales.
