About Layia chrysanthemoides (DC.) A.Gray
Layia chrysanthemoides (DC.) A.Gray is an annual herb. It produces an erect, nonglandular stem that reaches a maximum height of around half a meter. Its leaves are linear or lance-shaped, with prickly or fuzzy edges. The lower leaves may be lobed, and can grow up to about 10 centimeters long. The plant's flower heads consist of a cup of phyllaries with hairy edges. Around the edge of the cup is a fringe of white-tipped golden ray florets, surrounding a tightly packed central cluster of yellow disc florets that have purple anthers. The fruit produced by this plant is an achene; fruits that develop from the disc florets often have a white bristly pappus.
