Lathyrus sulphureus W.H.Brewer ex A.Gray is a hairless perennial herb. Its leaves are composed of multiple oval-shaped leaflets, each reaching up to 4 centimeters long. The leaves end in branching, coiled tendrils, and the plant’s large stipules can grow over 2 centimeters long. This species produces a dense inflorescence holding up to 15 pea flowers, which are most often arranged in a line along one side of the inflorescence stem. The flower color ranges from light yellow to deep orange, and the flowers darken as they age. The flowers are wide, with deeply folded faces. The fruit produced by this plant is a hairless, dehiscent legume pod.
