About Lathrecista asiatica (Fabricius, 1798)

Lathrecista asiatica (Fabricius, 1798) is a medium-sized dragonfly. It has brown-capped grey eyes and a blood red tail. Its thorax is copper brown, with a pair of narrow parallel yellow stripes on the dorsal side; the sides of the thorax are yellow with stripes. Segments 1 and 2 of the male abdomen have broad lateral stripes and a fine mid-dorsal stripe. Segments 3 through 8 are bright crimson-red, with narrowly black apical sutures. Segments 9 and 10, as well as the anal appendages, are black. The female of this species has a brown abdomen. This dragonfly breeds in marshes that are associated with ponds and streams.
