About Lasthenia glabrata Lindl.

Lasthenia glabrata is an annual herb that reaches up to 50 centimeters (19.5 inches) in height. Its thin stem bears a few pairs of oppositely arranged, smooth-edged linear leaves, each growing up to 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) long. This plant produces flower heads that grow solitary or in loose clusters. Each flower head holds 7 to 15 yellow ray florets, which surround a large number of disc florets. The fruit is an achene a few millimeters long that lacks a pappus. This species has two accepted subspecies. Lasthenia glabrata subsp. glabrata is found in the San Francisco Bay area, Orange County, and the central region of California's Central Valley. Lasthenia glabrata subsp. coulteri (A.Gray) Ornduff is distributed in southern California and the northern portion of the Central Valley.
