About Lamprotornis purpureus (Statius Muller, 1776)

Adults of this stocky bird species measure 22–23 cm in length. They have a metallic purple head and body, glossy green wings, a short tail, and a yellow eye. The sexes have similar appearances, while juveniles are much duller, with grey underparts and a brown iris. This species is a resident breeding bird found across tropical Africa, ranging from Senegal and northern Zaire eastward to Sudan and western Kenya. It is a common passerine that typically inhabits open woodland and cultivated areas.
