About Laetiporus gilbertsonii Burds.
Laetiporus gilbertsonii Burds. produces yellow to orangish caps that are 20–30 centimetres (8–12 inches) wide, and develop a lobed, zonate shape as they age. Its flesh is soft, colored white to yellowish, and has a mild or sour taste. The spore print of this fungus is white. This species is distributed in western North America, where it occurs from September to November, and also in South America; confirmed collections have been made from Oregon and Washington. It grows on hardwood stumps and logs. Laetiporus gilbertsonii is edible, but some people have reported experiencing gastrointestinal upset after eating it.
