About Laeticutis cristata (Schaeff.) Audet

Laeticutis cristata is a fungus species belonging to the family Albatrellaceae. It can be found growing across Asia, Europe, and North America. In these regions, it grows either singly or in fused clumps on the ground within deciduous and coniferous forests. The fruit bodies of this fungus contain cristatic acid, a derivative of benzoic acid. Laboratory testing has found that cristatic acid has both cytotoxic activity and antibiotic activity against members of the genus Bacillus. Another compound called cristatomentin is known only from this species; it is a green pigment that has a meroterpene chemical structure.
