About Lactarius xanthogalactus Peck

Lactarius xanthogalactus Peck produces mushrooms with pinkish-cinnamon caps 3โ€“11 cm (1+1โ„4โ€“4+1โ„4 in) wide. Caps are supported by pinkish-white stems, which measure 2โ€“6 cm (3โ„4โ€“2+1โ„4 in) long and 0.7โ€“2 cm (1โ„4โ€“3โ„4 in) wide. When cut or injured, the mushroom oozes white latex that rapidly turns bright sulfur-yellow. Its spores are pale yellow, elliptical, and bumpy, and the spore print is also pale yellow. This mushroom has an unpleasant taste. Fruit bodies of Lactarius xanthogalactus grow scattered or in groups on the ground under conifers and hardwoods. They occur between November and February in Oregon and California.
