About Lactarius paradoxus Beardslee & Burl.

The cap of Lactarius paradoxus Beardslee & Burl. ranges in color from blue-green to gray, and measures 4โ€“8 centimetres (1+1โ„2โ€“3+1โ„4 in) in width. The stipe is 1.5โ€“3.5 cm (1โ„2โ€“1+1โ„2 in) long and up to 1.3 cm wide. When damaged, this mushroom stains green and exudes dark red latex. Its flesh is bluish white, odorless, and ranges in taste from mild to slightly bitter. The spore print of the species is light yellowish. Lactarius paradoxus fruits from early fall to late winter, and is distributed in the southern and eastern United States. It grows in grass and under pine trees, and forms mycorrhizal associations with pine and oak trees.
