About Lactarius corrugis Peck

The brownish-red cap of Lactarius corrugis Peck is 4โ€“12 centimetres (1+1โ„2โ€“4+3โ„4 in) wide, and is usually covered in a light bloom that darkens when touched. Its gills are light yellow and exude white latex that stains surfaces brown. The stem measures 4โ€“13 cm (1+1โ„2โ€“5 in) long and 1.5โ€“2.5 cm (5โ„8โ€“1 in) thick. The spore print of this species is white. Lactarius corrugis resembles Lactifluus volemus, which also produces latex that stains brown. By comparison, Lactarius hygrophoroides has a pinkish-orange cap. This mushroom grows under oak trees in eastern North America, and can be found between July and September. Lactarius corrugis is classified as a choice edible mushroom.
