About Lactarius corrugis Peck
The brownish-red cap of Lactarius corrugis Peck is 4โ12 centimetres (1+1โ2โ4+3โ4 in) wide, and is usually covered in a light bloom that darkens when touched. Its gills are light yellow and exude white latex that stains surfaces brown. The stem measures 4โ13 cm (1+1โ2โ5 in) long and 1.5โ2.5 cm (5โ8โ1 in) thick. The spore print of this species is white. Lactarius corrugis resembles Lactifluus volemus, which also produces latex that stains brown. By comparison, Lactarius hygrophoroides has a pinkish-orange cap. This mushroom grows under oak trees in eastern North America, and can be found between July and September. Lactarius corrugis is classified as a choice edible mushroom.
