Initial Taxonomic Description

Ferdinand von Mueller first described this species in 1859 under the name Walcottia eriobotrya.

Taxonomic Reclassification

In 1917, George Claridge Druce reclassified the species and transferred it to the genus Lachnostachys, giving it the currently accepted scientific name Lachnostachys eriobotrya (F.Muell.) Druce.
