Lachenalia contaminata Aiton, commonly known as wild hyacinth, is a flowering plant species that belongs to the Asparagaceae family. It is native to the Western Cape of South Africa. This is a bulbous perennial plant that grows up to 25 cm (10 in) tall. It has grass-like leaves and fleshy stems, which produce brushlike white flowers tipped with maroon during spring. The Latin specific epithet 'contaminata' references the plant's flowers, which look as though they are 'contaminated' with red or brown markings. This species needs to be grown in a sheltered, frost-free location, or grown under glass.
