About Lachenalia carnosa Baker

Lachenalia carnosa Baker is a geophyte species belonging to the genus Lachenalia. It is endemic to the Northern Cape and Western Cape provinces of South Africa. This species has two common names: Namakwa-persviooltjie, which translates to "small purple Namaqua violin" in Afrikaans, and flesh viooltjie.

Lachenalia carnosa has a widespread distribution across Namaqualand, ranging from Steinkopf to the southern Knersvlakte. It is especially common in central and western Namaqualand, as well as in the Kamiesberge.

This plant grows in two biomes: Fynbos and Succulent Karoo. It most frequently occurs in gravelly clay or sandy soil, growing on granite outcrops.
