About Lacanobia w-latinum Hufnagel, 1766
This species has a wingspan of 36–41 mm, and it is very similar to Lacanobia contigua. The ground colour of its forewings ranges from red brown, violet brown, and silver grey to dark brown. The reniform and orbicular markings are large, with partial reddish tinting. The basal dash is very dark and striking. Both the midfield and the extreme marginal area are also distinctly dark, while the inner marginal field is grey brown to silver grey. A large W-shaped marking is visible in the light wavy subterminal line, which is the origin of the species' Latin name w-latinum. The hindwings are grey brown, mostly unmarked, and slightly darkened along the edge; only the dark veins stand out more clearly. The flat, hemispherical egg has protruding, wavy ribs. It is initially yellowish green, and later becomes whitish or grey with crimson spots on the top. Caterpillar colouration varies from greenish or yellowish to brownish grey. They have an indistinct dark dorsal line marked with dark slashes, plus bright lateral stripes, bright legs, and black spiracles. The head features two distinctive vertical black stripes. The dark red-brown pupa has a small, shovel-shaped cremaster with two tips that are constricted at the base.
