About Kleinia fulgens Hook.fil.
Kleinia fulgens Hook.fil. is a perennial herbaceous plant. It has a relatively soft stem, succulent leaves, and grows in extensive clumps reaching up to 60 cm in length, with no long hairs on its tissues. Its leaves narrow toward a winged base, have an oval outline with prominent pointed triangular teeth, and reach a maximum total size of 15 cm long by 5 cm wide. The plant produces a small number of flowerheads that resemble thistles. Its involucral bracts are few, very unequal in width, and membranous with a defined border, growing up to 2 cm long. The flower disk measures 2.5 cm in diameter; there are no ray florets, and the corolla is colored crimson, scarlet, or cherry red. Flowering occurs from late autumn through winter. This species is native to Angola, Mozambique, Eswatini (Swaziland), Zambia, and Zimbabwe, as well as the KwaZulu-Natal region and the Northern Provinces of South Africa.
