About Kelloggia galioides Torr.
Kelloggia galioides is a rhizomatous perennial herb that produces a very slender, erect stem that reaches a maximum height of around 40 centimeters. Its lance-shaped green leaves grow in opposite arrangements along the stem, particularly at the axils where the stem branches. Each leaf measures 2 to 4 centimeters long. A thin-branched, open inflorescence bears a small number of small bright pink or white flowers. The flowers are funnel-shaped, with a rounded, hairy green fruit that develops at the base of each flower. The open face of each flower has narrow, pointed lobes. This species blooms from May to August.
This plant is native to the Western United States, where it grows across a range from Washington to California, and from New Mexico to Montana. It occurs in coniferous forests dominated by Yellow pine, Red fir, and Lodgepole pine, growing at elevations between 700 and 3,110 metres (2,300 to 10,200 feet).
