About Keckiella corymbosa (Benth.) Straw

Keckiella corymbosa is a narrow, erect keckiella that grows up to approximately half a meter tall, and less than one meter wide. Its spreading branches bear oppositely arranged pairs of narrowly oval leaves. These leaves measure 1 to 3 centimeters long, with either smooth or faintly toothed edges. The plant produces inflorescences on hairy pedicels, which hold many individual flowers. Each flower is tubular, opening into a wide mouth. It has three narrow, pointed lower lobes, and two upper lobes that are joined into a straight flap or curving lip. Flowers can be up to 4 centimeters wide and 3 centimeters long, and range in color from bright red to orange red or deep pink. Inside the flower mouth are long filamentous stamens, plus one flat, yellow-haired sterile stamen called a staminode.
