About Junonia terea elgiva (Hewitson, 1864)
Junonia terea, commonly known as the soldier pansy or soldier commodore, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae. This species was first officially described by Dru Drury in 1773, and it is native to the Afrotropical realm. There are slight differences in wingspan between male and female individuals of this species: males have a wingspan measuring 50 to 55 mm, while females have a slightly larger wingspan ranging from 52 to 60 mm. The caterpillar larvae of Junonia terea feed on three plant species: Asystasia gangetica, Phaulopsis imbricata, and Ruellia patula. The subspecies covered here is Junonia terea elgiva, originally described by Hewitson in 1864.
