About Junonia oenone (Linnaeus, 1764)
Junonia oenone (Linnaeus, 1764) has a wingspan ranging from 40 to 52 mm. The upper surface of its forewings is black, with white markings located near the apex. The upper surface of its hindwings is black, with white markings along the outer edge and a characteristic large metallic-blue spot. In females, this blue spot is smaller and takes on a dull purple color instead. The underside of the forewings is brown, with white markings that match the markings on the forewing's upper surface. The underside of the hindwings is an almost uniform brown. The larvae of Junonia oenone feed on Adhatoda densiflora, Mackaya bella, Justicia natalensis, Asystasia (specifically A. gangetica), Isoglossa, Pualowilhelmia, and Ruella species.
