Juncus usitatus, commonly known as the common rush, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the rush family, Juncaceae. It is a graceful, clumping plant that grows between 40 centimetres and 1.1 metres in height. It is commonly found in New Zealand and eastern Australia, growing in disturbed sites near stream banks and in other moist habitats. Its specific epithet "usitatus" comes from Latin, where it means "common or usual".
